Cherry Lane signs administration agreement for catalog of Blues legend T-Bone Walker

New York, NY, March 10, 2008: Cherry Lane Music Publishing Co. Inc., who represents the catalogs of Elvis Presley, John Denver and Quincy Jones, has announced the signing of a worldwide, long term administration agreement with Lord And Walker Music Publishing (BMI) for the catalog of Aaron Walker, Sr. popularly known as T-Bone Walker. Walker, who passed away in 1975, was a pioneer on the electric guitar and shaped the history of blues and popular music, influencing countless of musicians including B.B. King, who has cited Walker as his primary inspiration. Walker's immortal song "They Call It Stormy Monday (But Tuesday Is Just As Bad)" is a standard for blues and pop artists and became a hit for The Allman Brothers Band. In 1987, Walker was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
“Blues is at the core of virtually all popular music we hear today," stated Richard Stumpf, SVP of Creative Services & Marketing at Cherry Lane. "To be able to work the catalog of one of the giants of the genre is an incredible honor. I personally feel it is critical to get this music heard by today's youth. To hear music created by a blend of raw passion and pain is moving and something today's music fan doesn't get enough of.” Meyer, who manages the intellectual property rights for various artist estates comments, "I've been representing the Estate of T-Bone Walker since 1999 and through the years, this catalog has continually retained it's relevance in today's changing marketplace. T-Bone Walker is one of the architects of American music and his creative work is timeless." Walker's daughter Bernita Walker, who oversees the family publishing entity adds, "I'm pleased to be associated with a company like Cherry Lane that has such a global reach. My father shared his music on many continents and he left an impact anytime and anywhere he took the stage." The deal was negotiated by Mike Connelly, EVP Business Development, and Keith Hauprich, VP of Business and Legal Affairs, from Cherry Lane and Nancy Meyer of Bates Meyer, Inc.
