Elvis Presley is arguably the best-selling and most popular solo recording artist of all time. His unique mix of country, R&B, and pop was seminal in the development of rock and roll in the 1950s and spawned such classics as "Hound Dog," "Jailhouse Rock" "Loving You," (penned by the legendary songwriting team of Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller) as well as "Don't' Be Cruel," "Return to Sender" and "All Shook Up." He had a prodigious movie career as well, appearing in more than 30 feature films which spawned such hits as "Can't Help Falling in Love With You" (Blue Hawaii), "Return to Sender" (Girls, Girls, Girls!), "Bossa Nova Baby" (Fun in Acapulco) and "Viva Las Vegas" (Viva Las Vegas).
It is estimated that almost 1 billion Elvis recordings have been sold worldwide, including 132 Top 40 songs, (18 of which reached Number 1). Since his untimely death in 1977 there have been countless reissues of recordings, videos and television specials, as well as hundreds of books written about the man and his times. The United States Post Office issued a commemorative stamp in 1993 and Elvis was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1998. In 2002 the multi-platinum album Elvis Number Ones and the chart-topping techno remix of "A Little Less Conversation," were among numerous recordings, films and commercials featuring Elvis' music that marked the twenty-fifth anniversary of his passing.
